Bison hunting started on Antelope Island, in the Great Salt Lake, in 1896 and continued as a frequent activity until 1926 when the Big Buffalo Hunt eliminated all but a few of the bison. Thereafter, public sentiment changed during the 1920's and activists began to call for the protection of the herd on the island.

Wild horses - If you look closely you'll see the tops of fence posts just beyond these fighting stallions. Miles of this barbwire fence was put in place to keep the horses out while the area on the other side recovers from a huge grass fire in 2017.
